Please bring your safety gear to include sun protection, sun glasses, PFD, safety whistle, and your own food and drinks. VHF Radio is highly recommended, particularly those who plan to fish while sailing. Make sure you kayak is rigged and ready to sail; check all drain plugs, hatches, rudder assembly, aka braces and pins, mirage drive(s), etc
We will be sailing nearshore waters along Matagorda Island, details will be announced the morning of the event since sailing is highly weather dependent. As a rough plan will be sailing 8-10 miles up/down the coast and then back to our launch location. Total trip distance wll be 16-20 miles, 2-4 hours of sailingdepending on wind speed and direction.
This trip is tailored for all skill levels; however, please make sure this is not your first trip using your HobieSailing Kayak. Since this is a coastal sail you will need to be proficient with the operation of your kayak. We will be sailing as a group and will maintain close proximity to the beach.
We would like to invite you to explore the new website, that has been created for the members of the Texas Gulf Coast Hobie Island Club!
It is designed as a medium in which you can share questions, knowledge, experiences, and connect with other solo and tandem Island owners here in Texas.
We hope for it to become a resource built by you and other members of the community . You will find useful links, weather updates in the area, a Hobie Island Club forum, and upcoming events. We encourage everyone to make this website and club their own and give it a life by submitting photos, sharing stories and voicing your opinion on various topics listed in the forum.
This is an opportunity to meet other Island owners, plan trips, and sail into new adventures!
You can also join us on facebook at: www.facebook.com/texasislandclub
All appropriate photos posted on the Facebook Page will be added to the Photo Page on this website.
For our first Hobie Island Club event, Austin Kayak will be hosting a meet and greet on February 24th at the Houston store located at 5822 Bissonnet, you can find all of the information on the website under the events calendar. We would like to get as many members together as we can to discuss the direction of the club and introduce the club captains. We hope to see you there!
